I got myself a drawing tablet

Heyo! Welcome to a new year to those who made it. Farewell to those who didn’t. I’ve made a somewhat unusual decision for myself, an impulsive purchase. Well, it wasn’t that impulsive. I even watched reviews of the things I got a desire to get, compared them and the like. Still, it is not unusual for me to talk myself out of things I don’t really need. I’m glad I didn’t so far, as I got myself a drawing tablet.

At first I was thinking of getting a used Wacom or something, but the more I looked at local used market, as well as, regular market, the more I realized two things:

My used market for drawing tablets are way too expensive;
Wacom has some very nice competition and seems pretty overpriced.

Thus, I got myself a brand new XP-PEN Deco 01 V2 (warning, heavy website, with JS ofc) drawing tablet, say that 10 times fast. It’s a simple pen digitizer, no screen or capacitive touch. Fairly large, affordable, and I got it on Xmas sale too!

I’ve never really drawn, not since I was in school. And that didn’t really count since it was just pretty poor stick figure kind of crap, just to kill time. So why did I decide to get the tablet? Well, I told myself I could use it to learn to do texture work for the occasional 3D model I make. And that may be true, but as I started using it and trying to learn to draw I discovered it’s just kind of fun!

For now I decided to focus on some fundamentals and doing exercises my friend recommended me, namely Drawbox. Even though I don’t follow them to a T (like using a digital drawing tablet instead of pen and paper). I just started so I cannot say much, but the little work I did seem to help make better lines. As I try to learn both good drawing techniques, as well as, getting used to the tablet, I try to have some fun with sketches and the like. If I don’t feel too embarrassed about them, I shall post some more dilettante drawings or whatever.
